Reflection

After taking a course based on technology, I find that no matter what we do to get away from it we can't. The world is changing so much every day with new and faster ways to do things, we need to keep learning to keep up with it. I am only 28 and remember the very first cell phone my parents had and then looking at the cell phone I have now. This is only happening more and more. I mean there is cars that can drive themselves!!

My dad was offered a new job which required him to create a resume and presentation. I remember spending all summer helping him create this. (He didn't even know how to turn a computer on!) Same thing with my mom, I had to show her how to upload pictures to her computer (every month). I then created a list of directions for my mom and she just followed the steps and was able to upload the pictures herself. Now my dad on the other hand was terrified of the computer. BUT with repetition and practice is now working at an office uploading documents to the computer and sending emails daily. I find that older generations were so against all the technology but realized they needed to more with the world. It may take my parents longer to figure it out but they still did it!

When I first seen I had to create a blog...the thoughts running through my head! I was getting married in a month and I had so much going on I sat in front of the computer and cried. Now after the second post, I felt like an idiot for crying, it was easy! I follow people on Instagram that always say follow my blog to read more. I also see people make a living blogging and spending there time on Instagram. However, blogging is not for me. I enjoying expanding my limits and creating the blog, but at this time I do not like I will continue to blog. However, from this class I learned many ways to increase the amount of technology in my classroom without using a SmartBoard. I also enjoyed learning how to screeencast and think this may come in handing the future with having lessons saved for sub plans or even in a high school or college classroom if I decided to change grade levels. I also really want to incorporate Google classroom into my class next year for my high students to help them learn how to type and navigate different sites.  I also am going to try and use Remind for communicate for my parents, so I don't have them calling and texting me at 9pm!

Technology in Education Photo Credit When I was student teaching I had a SMART board in my classroom and soon came to love everything about the board. All the different features, how you can easily change images from big to small to show congruent shapes, how the students can physically interact with it, blew my mind! My students loved it and I realized that I could probably never teach without the board again. I then entered into my current position where I did not have a SMART board and came to realize I still need to find a way to make students engaged. "Final Step: Bringing About Change"

Technology Leader Throughout these first four weeks, I have learned a lot about what makes a great leader a leader. A leader must have great communication skills as they will be talking to many different departments within the district. They also need to be organized. They need to be Photo Credit  organized because they will be placing orders for very expensive equipment, collecting data to ensure programs are working and figuring out the best way to store technology on a day to day basis. A leader also needs to be patient, lead by example and build relationships. When I think about myself as a leader, I think I will be a great one, but I did not think about all the responsibility that would come with it. Such as the hiring and ordering sections. Statistics

Research As educators we are told to follow best practices based on statistics and research. After reading through many of the articles, there was one article that stuck out to me. The article was called Social Media Fact Sheet completed by Pew Research Center. The center began tracking many things about social media, such as how often, age, race , gender and which account gets used the most. This article contains information is mostly relevant to me.  The chart below shows the age ranges that use some form of social media. Something that does not shock me is that the top line represents ages 18-29 and the bottom line is 65 and older. It is obviously clear without this graph who uses social media the most and who doesn't. I would have liked to see the ages of 10-18 though.
